Web development in Leeds from Thirdrock Internet

Are you being served? dotNET vs PHP vs Java vs Cold Fusion et al

3rd May 2011

When our clients come to us with a new web development project in-mind some have a firm idea of the underlying technologies they want to use; others ask for our expertise and advice in making a suitable choice. Thirdrock is equally qualified to work in either of these situations - having been around since 1995, there's not much that we've not worked with at one time or another.

When we started creating websites, static HTML, Flash and Perl script were the only game in town. As websites have become increasingly complex and started to provide broader access to our clients' core business offering, some technologies have faded away (Perl, WAP/WML and, arguably, Cold Fusion) and others have grown in stature - PHP, .NET and Java being the three most significant. Thirdrock has enjoyed working with a range of technologies including an increasing range of mobile and third-party technologies and toolkits. There are more tools in the toolbox than ever before, and we believe we do a great job of picking the right tool for every new web development.

Regardless of the server technology - PHP, .NET or Java - we develop all of our websites using a standard (model-view-controller) approach. We design all of our websites using UML diagrams and wireframes to make sure that misunderstandings and ambiguities are identified and resolved at the very outset. Our standard software framework and development process makes sure that the websites we create are future-proof, secure, scalable and maintainable.

So if you know that your current IT infrastructure requires a Microsoft ASP.NET solution, you'll want to speak with our .NET development team. If licensing costs are an issue for you, or you prefer to use an industrial-strength open source solution, we've got a wealth of Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) experience too. If you have a legacy website which you need someone to maintain and build upon, there's a pretty good chance that we'll be able to help with that too - our technical team loves a good challenge. And finally, if none of this PHP/.NET/Java jargon means anything to you, we'd be happy to talk you through the options and make a recommendation that best suits your web development needs.
